Catch our State of Play recap or our Xbox Showcase Recap for more summer gaming news!

Summer Game Fest has gotten a reputation for being a lot of things in a short amount of time. June 5th at the Dolby Theatre delivered on that, with Geoff Keighley and Lucy James walking through a packed two-plus hours that ranged from a beloved Capcom franchise to one of the biggest RPG series in gaming history closing out its trilogy. We watched the entire thing live with chat, and it was AN EXPERIENCE. Our VOD will be live soon on YouTube to relive the whole thing!

Here’s everything worth knowing.

It Opened With Resident Evil Veronica

Summer Game Fest 2026 kicked off with Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, debuting at the top of the show. The Capcom game is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch 2, and PC in 2027. Strong opener. If you’re going to get the crowd going in the first five minutes, a beloved classic getting the full remake treatment works.

Two New Cuphead Games

Studio MDHR revealed Mighty Cuphead Adventure, a true 8-bit action platformer coming to consoles and PC, plus a separate brand-new hand-animated Cuphead game. Two announcements, one segment. No release dates on either, but the hand-animated one in particular looks like something special if you’ve followed the studio’s work.

Alien Isolation 2 Is Real

Alien Isolation 2 was announced at the show, with art director Ana Sopikova briefly discussing what to expect. The original is one of the best horror games ever made and has only grown in reputation since 2014. This was one of the louder reactions of the night.

Gen Atlas From the Shadow of the Colossus Team

GenDesign, the studio known for Shadow of the Colossus and Ico, showed a trailer for Gen Atlas. No release date, no platforms confirmed. Just vibes, but the vibes were enough.

Stranger Than Heaven Has Tupac in It

RGG Studio’s Masayoshi Yokoyama took the stage to introduce Stranger Than Heaven, and the end of the trailer revealed Tupac as a character. Snoop Dogg then appeared on stage to explain why. Stranger Than Heaven releases January 15, 2027. Whatever you were expecting from that sentence, just roll with it.

Star Wars: Zero Company Gets a Date and Anakin

Star Wars: Zero Company is a Star Wars take on XCOM, with the trailer showing deep squad customization and early combat. The trailer ended with the reveal that Anakin Skywalker will be in the game. It launches on Xbox, PC, and PS5 on August 27, 2026.

Control Resonant, Wolf Among Us 2, Blood of Dawnwalker

A solid mid-show stretch. Control Resonant arrives September 24. The Wolf Among Us 2 brings Bigby Wolf back for a new dark fairy tale mystery in 2027, and The Wolf Among Us Remastered is also coming holiday 2026 so you can catch up before the sequel. The Blood of Dawnwalker from Bandai Namco and Rebel Wolves showed a new trailer highlighting the game’s time-hopping mechanics and launches September 3.

Stellar Blade: Blood Rain

The follow-up to Shift Up’s action hit was revealed, following a cybernetic girl fighting body horror monsters in a cyberpunk city. It’s in early development, so don’t expect a release date soon, but the announcement alone was enough to break timelines.

Street Fighter 6 Gets Tifa

Street Fighter 6’s Year 4 DLC was revealed, with three new original characters in Yasmine, Arjun, and Bosch, plus a guest character: Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII. There’s a crossover you didn’t have on your bingo card.

Guild Wars 3, Monster Hunter Wilds Expansion, Palworld 1.0

Some notable live service and ongoing game news scattered throughout. Guild Wars 3 was announced with a cinematic trailer. Monster Hunter Wilds is getting an expansion called Ascendance in 2027. Palworld 1.0 hits on July 10.

It Closed With Final Fantasy VII Revelation

The final announcement of the show was Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, showing the Highwind, new gameplay featuring Cid and Vincent Valentine, and the official subtitle. Director Naoki Hamaguchi returned to the stage, with Matt Mercer also appearing to voice Vincent Valentine. Hamaguchi confirmed the game’s theme is “resolve” and that it will release simultaneously on all platforms Spring 2027.

That’s how you close a show. Two hours of everything, ending on one of the most anticipated games in years finally having a name and a window. Summer Game Fest 2026 did its job.

TL;DR (For The Skippers)

WELL THAT WAS  A SHOW. Resident Evil Veronica remake is coming in 2027. Alien Isolation 2 announced. Two new Cuphead games from Studio MDHR. Star Wars: Zero Company (with Anakin) drops August 27. Control Resonant September 24. Blood of Dawnwalker September 3. Wolf Among Us 2 in 2027; remaster this holiday. Stellar Blade: Blood Rain was announced but is in early development. Street Fighter 6 getting Tifa as DLC. Palworld 1.0 on July 10. The whole show closed with Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final chapter of the remake trilogy, Spring 2027 on all platforms.
