What this site is

This is a public blog for games news, reviews, and related coverage. Visitors can read articles, search the site, and watch a Twitch livestream on the homepage when we are live. There is no public registration, commenting, newsletter signup, or contact form.

Only staff and administrators can sign in, that happens through our CMS. Public visitors do not get accounts.

Data we collect from visitors

When you load a page we process information that browsers send as part of a normal request. That includes your IP address, user agent, the page requested, and the time of the request. We store IP address and user agent in the site session so the site can stay secure and remember short-lived state such as CSRF protection.

If you use site search, we receive the search terms you type so we can return matching articles.

We do not ask visitors for a name, email address, or other contact details, and we do not run advertising profiles for readers.

Data we collect from staff

Staff accounts are created by us. They typically include a name, email address, and a hashed password. Some accounts also store an optional Discord user ID, an X username, and an avatar. If no avatar is uploaded, the CMS may fall back to Gravatar using a hash of the account email.

Staff sign-in can also use passkeys. We keep session records, remember-me tokens if chosen, password-reset tokens, and activity logs of CMS actions so we can operate and audit the site.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and browser storage to run the site, remember your display theme, and remember whether you accepted optional analytics. Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent. Optional analytics cookies run only after you choose Accept all.

Analytics

If you accept optional cookies, we load Google Analytics 4 and Cloudflare Web Analytics. They help us understand page views, referrers, device type, browser, operating system, and (for Cloudflare Web Analytics) a country derived at the network edge. If you choose Essential only, we do not load those scripts.

You can change that choice at any time from the Cookie Policy page or by clearing the cookie_consent cookie and visiting the site again.

Embeds and third parties

When a Twitch livestream is on the homepage, Twitch’s player and chat iframes load from twitch.tv. Twitch may set its own cookies and collect data under its policies. We do not control that. Twitch also sends us EventSub notifications for our own channels so we know when a stream goes live or offline. That is channel status, not reader account data.

Outbound links to TikTok, YouTube, Twitch, and X take you to those services. They do not set cookies on our domain by themselves.

Cloudflare may process requests to deliver the site, manage bots, and run optional web analytics after consent.

When we publish a new article, our Discord bot posts an announcement to the Press X To Skip Discord server’s announcements channel. That post includes the article title, a short excerpt, the article URL, the social image, and the author’s Discord username and avatar. We send that published article content and the author’s Discord profile so the bot can make the post. We do not send visitor data to Discord. The bot does not collect Discord messages or member data from readers.

How we use data

  • To keep the site secure, including sessions, CSRF protection, and abuse controls.
  • To remember essential preferences such as theme and cookie consent.
  • To measure traffic when you have accepted analytics.
  • To let staff sign in and manage content.

Sharing

We share personal data with the services needed to run the site:

  • Cloudflare, for content delivery, bot management, and optional web analytics.
  • Google, for Analytics 4, only after you accept optional cookies.
  • Twitch, for homepage embeds and our channel live-status notifications.
  • Discord, for posting a new-article announcement to our server’s announcements channel, using published article content and the author’s Discord username and avatar.
  • Gravatar, for staff avatar fallbacks based on a hash of the staff email.

We do not sell personal data. We do not share visitor lists with advertisers.

Retention

Visitor sessions last about 120 minutes of inactivity. Cookie lifetimes are listed in the Cookie Policy. Analytics retention follows Google’s and Cloudflare’s settings for those products. Staff account data is kept while the person needs CMS access, then removed or reduced when the account is no longer needed. Activity logs and security records are kept for as long as we need them to operate and protect the site.

International transfers

Some of the providers above may process data outside the country you are in, including the United States. We use them because they are required for hosting, security, analytics (with consent), embeds, Discord announcements, or staff avatars.

Your choices and rights

You can accept or reject optional analytics cookies, change that choice later, and block or delete cookies in your browser. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site from working.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask us for a copy of personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to withdraw analytics consent. Staff can also ask us to update or close a CMS account.

Children

The site publishes games and pop-culture coverage for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children in order to create accounts. There is no public signup.

Changes

If we change how the site collects or uses personal data, we will update this page and the date above. The Cookie Policy will be updated when the cookies we set change.
