Halloween: The Game sends Michael to the farm on October 27

By AJ Hanson on · 3 min read

A free Halloween 5 map, two new Michael skins, two new civilians, and a costume pack. Here's what's free, what isn't, and what it all costs.

IllFonic has laid out the first post-launch update for Halloween: The Game, and it lands October 27. The biggest piece is free: a fifth map called The Tower Farm, built from the settings of Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers. The rest is paid DLC.

The Tower Farm (free)

The suburban streets are gone for this one. Tower Farm is a small farming community just outside Haddonfield, where a few worn country roads meet at a lit filling station. That station is your landmark while you're crossing open roads or cutting through the cornfields.

The open layout works both ways. It's easy to find your way around, and it's just as easy for Michael to find you. IllFonic's advice is to stay low in the roadside ditches and wait for a gap before you run for it. We expect to spend a lot of time in ditches.

Farmhouses, barns, and sheds replace the usual homes, so there are still places to duck into and catch your breath. Michael gets hay bales, farm equipment and overgrown brush to work with, and the map also has a harvest festival, a trailer park, and gardens full of pumpkins, all under the last of the sunset. Basements are in, so basement chases are back.

Two new Michaels

IllFonic has partnered with Trancas International Films and Miramax to license more versions of Michael. Two arrive on the 27th at $9.99 each: the Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers version and the Halloween (2018) version.

Christopher Nelson is supervising the 2018 mask. He's the Academy Award winner who sculpted the mask for Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends, so that skin has the best shot at looking right.

Civilians and costumes

Two new civilians, Michelle and Eugene, come as a pair for $9.99. Civilian Costumes Pack 1 is also $9.99. It has 14 Halloween outfits (one per character) and 42 tints.

The update also includes free features, fixes, and quality-of-life changes. IllFonic hasn't said what those are yet.

Our take

A free map for everyone who owns the game is the right call, and Tower Farm sounds like a real change from the suburbs. The paid side is harder to justify. Ten dollars per Michael adds up fast, and if you want everything, you're spending close to forty dollars. If one version of Michael is your Michael, the skin you want is an easy buy. Everything else can wait for a sale.

This is also only the start. IllFonic says it's the first of several content updates planned across the game's first year, and Chief Creative Officer Jared Gerritzen put it plainly: "1978 was only the beginning." Plan your spending around that.

We'll be in the Tower Farm cornfields on the 27th. If you want to swap ditch spots or complain about prices, our Discord has a Halloween channel: https://discord.gg/VCVA5ZcwVA
