It is officially over. The Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake has been cancelled.
Ubisoft just did the thing again. You know the one—where they take a decade of mismanagement, light a pile of money on fire, and then issue a press release calling it a “Portfolio Reset” instead of admitting defeat.
The headline? Six games are dead. Two studios are shuttered. And yes, after years of development hell, restarts, graphic overhauls, and broken promises, the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake is officially gone. If you were holding out hope, it is time to let go.

Let’s just rip the band-aid off. Here is what Ubisoft’s “Strategic Realignment” (read: panic) just cost us. It isn’t just one game; it’s a massacre.
Real talk: this sucks. Hundreds of developers are losing their jobs because executives wanted to “optimize synergies” and chase trends instead of just shipping the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake when they had the chance.
Remember when this game was first announced? The trailer looked… rough. Fans complained. Ubisoft said “we hear you” and moved development from Ubisoft Pune to Ubisoft Montreal. We thought that saved it. We thought bringing it back to the original creators meant it was safe.
We were wrong. Instead of a polished gem, we got years of silence, and now, a cancellation notice hidden inside a corporate financial report. The Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake is now just a cautionary tale about “AAA” development bloat.

Instead of just making good games, Ubisoft is reorganizing into five “Creative Houses” starting in April 2026. They are grouping teams by genre (Shooters, Fantasy, etc.) to “reclaim creative leadership.”
Translation: They are building silos. They are turning game development into a factory assembly line even more than they already had. Nothing says “creative freedom” like being sorted into Hufflepuff for Live Service Shooters.
This restructuring is supposedly designed to “restore sustainable growth,” but let’s be real: it’s a desperate pivot. You don’t cancel high-profile titles like the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake if your strategy is working.
Oh, and the cherry on top of this refuse pile? They are forcing everyone back to the office five days a week.
Because clearly, the problem wasn’t the bad executive decisions or the bloat—it was that the devs weren’t sitting in cubicles enough. Making your workforce miserable while you fire their friends is certainly a choice.

Ubisoft isn’t “resetting” for you. They aren’t doing this to make Assassin’s Creed better. They are doing this because the spreadsheet turned red, and the only way to make it green again was to stop making games and start cutting costs.
The Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake didn’t die because the concept was bad; it died because it spent too long in the oven and became a financial liability.
If you’re a fan? Stop pre-ordering. Stop buying the “Quadruple-A” hype. If you’re a dev affected by these closures? We see you. We know this isn’t your fault.
